Wall of Sorrow

SS Exodus is the second area on the upper path from The Split, accessed by climbing up the Wall of Sorrow. It is a giant airship previously used to deliver bombs manufactured in The Machine to the enemy territory. Now the ship is floating idly in the sky. It introduces four new hazards not seen anywhere prior to The Split, one of which is unique to this area.

SS Exodus' main path consists of 23 levels. Main levels contain 20 regular tumors.

SS Exodus contains 14 secret levels, in which 7 mega tumors and 1 cartridge (Fallen Fantasy) can be collected.

In level 7 of SS Exodus Steven III can be found.

Final level of SS Exodus contains the head, which is one of the three body parts needed to assemble the Friend and complete the first part of the game. That level is a dead end and has a one-way warp in it, not marked on the map, which can be used to leave the area.

Enemies[ | ]

SS Exodus contains 1 living enemy type and 4 mechanical hazards:

  • Turret (static, single-shot) - a stationary turret firing relatively slow-moving bullets in one direction at even intervals. Touching a bullet or the turret itself kills Ash.
  • Turret (tracking, single-shot) - a rotating turret which tracks Ash's movement with a slight delay and fires relatively slow-moving bullets at even intervals, as long as it can see Ash.
  • Cannon - a cannon mounted on the airship. Fires cannonballs at even intervals. Cannonballs follow a set trajectory and bounce off of solid surfaces. Cannonballs also act like "bouncy" enemies, meaning Ash can safely jump on top of one and bounce off of it, changing the cannonball's trajectory in the process. Touching the sides or the bottom of a cannonball kills Ash. Touching the cannon itself is completely safe and they have no collision, but standing inside of one means the next cannonball may spawn right on top of Ash and kill him.
  • Crusher (one-directional) - solid blocks marked with a decorative rotating gear, which attempt to crush Ash when he crosses their line of sight. After charging towards Ash and hitting a solid surface, the crusher will slowly return to its original position and prepare for another charge. This crusher type can only charge in one direction.
  • Kukos - the spiky floating balls first seen in Arid Flats are present in SS Exodus as well. They appear in a few levels, moving quickly from one side of the level to the other in a continuous stream. Both the small and fully grown variations of kuko make an appearance.

Secret entrances[ | ]

  • SS Exodus 5 (left secret) - 1 mega tumor, 1 NPC. Accessed by climbing up the wall on the left.
  • SS Exodus 5t (downwards secret) - 1 cartridge, 1 NPC, 1 key. Accessed by unlocking the gate with a key. The NPC is accessed by jumping inside the fake wall in the left side of the giant crusher.
  • SS Exodus 6 (upwards secret) - 1 mega tumor. Accessed by riding the rising blocks up into the one-tile gap in the ceiling.
  • SS Exodus 7 (downwards secret) - 1 mega tumor. Accessed by breaking the crumbling block in the turret's line of fire and walking into the hole in the wall which it's covering. The entrance is hidden by a fake wall.
  • SS Exodus 9 (right secret) - 1 mega tumor. Accessed by breaking the breakable blocks in the right wall.
  • SS Exodus 12 (upwards secret) - 1 mega tumor. Accessed by climbing up the right wall.
  • SS Exodus 13 (left secret) - 1 mega tumor, 1 NPC. Accessed by jumping through the spike-covered tunnel in the left wall, from which the moving platforms appear.
  • SS Exodus 15 (right secret) - 1 mega tumor. Accessed by climbing to the upper right part of the level.

  • The Anguish 12 secret appears to be a Future equivalent of the SS Exodus.
  • In the real world, the name "SS Exodus" refers to a ship that carried 4,500 Jewish immigrants to the British Mandatory of Palestine in 1947.
