Wall of Sorrow is the first area accessed from The Split by following the upper path. It is a large mountain graveyard, with the gravestones covering background sections of each level and ropes that were used to lower the coffins swinging in the wind. Parts of the mountain have collapsed, other parts are floating in the air. The area introduces two new enemies and makes use of the cloud platforms, which only appear in one of The End's secrets before The Split.

Wall of Sorrow's main path consists of 16 levels. Main levels contain 15 regular tumors.

Wall of Sorrow contains 9 secret levels, in which 5 mega tumors and 1 cartridge (Ash Climber) can be collected.

Climbing all the way up the Wall of Sorrow allows Ash to get onto SS Exodus.

Enemies[ | ]

Wall of Sorrow is a home to three enemy types:

Anima Sola - ghosts floating in the wind, passing through the area. Functionally they are a reskin of kukos. Coming into contact with a ghost kills Ash.
Croasts - bird-like creatures using human skulls as a protective shell. They will fly slowly in one direction until they notice Ash. After that croasts will attempt to catch Ash by dashing towards him in a sweeping motion. Much like with other enemies wearing skulls, Ash can jump on top of a croast to bounce off of its head. Touching the sides or the bottom of the croast will kill Ash.

Secret entrances[ | ]

Wall of Sorrow 2 (left secret) - 1 level, 1 mega tumor. Accessed by crawling into the gap between the topmost moving block and the wall into which it retracts. The entrance is covered by a fake wall.
Wall of Sorrow 3 (right secret) - 1 level, 1 mega tumor. Accessed by dropping down onto the ledge with baby kukos sitting on it and walking to the right.
Wall of Sorrow 7 (left secret) - 2 levels, 1 mega tumor, 1 key. Accessed by opening the locked gate in top left with a key.
Wall of Sorrow 9 (upwards secret) - 3 levels, 1 mega tumor, 1 NPC. Accessed by jumping onto the croast to reach the hooks near the top of the level and climbing up.
Wall of Sorrow 9 (left secret) - 1 level, 1 cartridge, 1 NPC. Accessed by jumping through the tight gap between spikes in the tunnel leading to the left.
Wall of Sorrow 14 (downwards secret) - 1 level, 1 mega tumor. Accessed by pulling on the hook on the pillar below the starting platform.

Trivia[ | ]

The theme for Wall of Sorrow is a remix of Franz Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody.
In the real world, the name "Wall of Sorrow" refers to the Western Wall, a wall built as an expansion to the Second Jewish Temple.
Wall of Sorrow 3 is the only level in the area in which baby kukos appear.
Two gaspers are present off-screen in the secret above Wall of Sorrow 9. They play no role in gameplay, but their presence explains where the toxic gas in this area comes from.
This is the only fourth chapter to have 16 levels instead of 15.
